What is a leader and more importantly are you an effective leader in your practice? Are you the right one to be leading your practice? Let’s start there. There’s an old expression that several heads are better than one…nothing could be more true in management or shall we say leadership. As the leader in your practice, you must realize management must be shared or you will never tap the potential of your people and you could also find yourself doing everything on your own and spending countless hours planning for the business care component of the practice. In other words, if you try to manage everything yourself, you manage nothing very well. Instead, you must learn to lead your organization rather than manage your practice. The organization, in turn, will manage the practice. Every team member deserves to know what has been accomplished and what needs to be accomplished in order to determine what changes are needed to improve results. With this information comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes success and motivation. As CEO, your responsibility is to assure accurate information and that practice philosophy and goals are received and understood by each team member. This requires not controlling, but rather resourcing your team. It means that all staff are sharers of the vision and encouraged to continually improve... ![]() |
